'An Excellent Opportunity to Build upon Capitol' IC-THREAD - Sunstreaker - 12-02-2010 12:14 PM

'An Excellent Opportunity to Build upon Capitol in these Uncertain times'

The snow falls thick on the busy London streets, in this the December of the year of our Lord 1877, as you stand on the Tottenham Court Road, looking up at the offices of Blenehaset and Thorpe.

The epistle you recieved several days ago bade you to attend a meeting with Lord Sir Charles Blenehaset concerning; 'An Excellent Opportunity to Build upon Capitol in these Uncertain times', and that he would be ready to recieve you at precisely 2 p.m. prompt.

...and it is 1.54 p.m. now...

The Duke of Ancaster strides up and hammers on the front door. Standing back he looks up to the first floor windows.

'Damn it all to hell man, open the door! It's colder than the reception I get from my mother-in-law!'

Some of the pedestrians wending their weary way through London town, cross over the road to avoid the scene, tutting judgementally under their breaths, whilst still managing to maintain an air of indifference. From within the premises you can hear a slow lurching as someone moves toward the door, and the fumbling with keys as five heavy locks are slowly turned...

"Such viciousness," said a smirking man who had appeared behind the Duke. "why, I wouldn't want to see you get off to a bad start with my old friend Sir Charles."

The man had an air of confidence, and whilst he was slightly rotund he nonetheless made for an impressive figure against the dingy street. This was a man who believed he had power. In a lot of ways he did.

The heavy door swings inward awkwardly. A thin balding man, with a hawklike face squints at you questioningly.

'We are here to see Sir Charles at two. It is currently...'

He checks his pocket watch.

'Five minutes to. Could we trouble you to come and warm overselves by your fire. We wouldn't want to meet the old boy shaking in our boots now, would we?'

The elderly gentlemen peers at you with puzzlement, before nodding slowly and opening the door wide.

If you gentlemen would be so kind as to follow me to the study...

The old codger lurches back into the house...

The Duke looks to the man behind him with a smile.

'The pen may be mighter than the sword, but the tongue is twice as effective'

He strides in through the door, patting the butler rousingly on the shoulder as he does so.

The second man walks past the Duke, he is obviously familiar with the layout of the building, but gives the Duke a contemptuous look at the sign of kindness to the servant, quickly replaced with his shallow friendly demeanor. He thrusts his coat into the arms of another waiting servant, revealing his flawless suit underneath. It was obviously fairly new, and had been made to show the wealth of it's wearer.

The elderly gentleman progresses into the house, past several white doored rooms, to a small drawing room. The walls are lined with mahogany, and there is a large illuminated globe on a desk.

If sirs would like some cognac whilst you are waiting? Lord Sir Charles will be joining you presently.

The valet opens a nearby drinks cabinet and produces a crystal decanter.

'Cognac would be most agreeable sir, as would an ashtray?'

He takes a cigar from his pocket and waves it in the general direction of the butler.
