Royal Wedding - Moonbug - 04-13-2011 07:44 AM

Who is watching it?

Not me

Re: Royal Wedding - Sunstreaker - 04-13-2011 01:51 PM

I was planning on getting the lads round. It's a day off, might watch a bit, eat some cake. Make a jolly of it.

Regardless of what we think of the Royal Family - it is still;

1) A day off.
2) Someone getting married, which is a happy occassion... right?

I recently took some schoolkids (some from bottom sets - troublemaking, apathetic urchins) to the Opera. They moaned on the way there, said that it was going to be boring, they wouldn't understand... yaddayaddayadda... a lot of the teachers I told about the trip, were very 'Ugh? The Opera? In Italian? For four hours? What's the point of that?'

When we got there, these kids from Basildon were totally awestruck at just the spectacle of the whole thing.

The immensity and pageantry and oppulance.

Royal Weddings are still massive revenue spinners for tourism in this country. It's going to be awe-inspiring in it's magnitude. Much like the Nuremburg Rallyies... or Kim Jong Il's house parties.

There won't be another one for the future Monarch for at least 25 years.

My missus is currently in Zambia and was upset that she wasn't going to be able to see the wedding. She said she wanted to feel like part of the UK to which I replied, you are honey, no bugger here is going to be watching it either.

So, no, I'll be relaxing by the pool, maybe shooting some b-ball with my peeps.

Re: Royal Wedding - rockimus prime - 04-13-2011 04:33 PM

when is it exactly?

Re: Royal Wedding - Sunstreaker - 04-13-2011 04:42 PM

29th April. You'll get a day off school/college for it.

thanks 'Streaker! i probably won't watch it, but my parents will.

Not everybody is having the day off.

Some divisions of the company I work at, are not recognising it.

It's a bit strange that some people aren't recognising it.

I'm one of the lucky people that is taking 3 days off, and practically getting 2 weeks off from the 21st of April right through to the 2nd of May.

Re: Royal Wedding - minion - 04-13-2011 07:46 PM

My (US) company doesn't recognise it as a day off so I have to work or take annual leave which sucks. Sad
They are however letting us watch it in the office which is a problem because 1. I don't give a **** about watching it, and 2. I am field based and not a desk monkey.

@Sunstreaker

You do have a good point there though

Thankyou!

Spending all day with kids puts things into perspective, particularly the opera trip we went on a few weeks ago. I watch them dismiss stuff out of hand all the time - lots of really fast 'reactionary' decision making. Hindsight is a biatch.

What's it gonna hurt to spend five minutes of your day off watching the telly?
