Transformers Convention News

TFNation has issued the following press release announcing Stan Bush as their 2nd guest for TFNation 2018.

Transmission_Initiated
Transmission ID: 00005
TFNation_2018
Operation: Dare to Believe!

If you attend TFNation in 2018 you'll have the touch! You'll have the power! Most importantly, you'll also have the Emmy award-winning, Transformers Hall of Famer, Stan Bush!

To Transformers fans, Stan is best known for performing iconic songs "The Touch" and "Dare" which featured prominently in 1986's Transformers: The Movie. He has subsequently released additional tracks inspired by the Cybertronians, perhaps most notably, 2007's "Till All Are One".

As well as appearing on countless releases of Transformers: The Movie, his work can also be heard during the Transformers: War for Cybertron video game.

Of course, there is much more to Stan's arsenal than giant robots! He is an Emmy award-winning artist who has released fourteen studio albums over an incredible 35-year career. His most recent album, "Change the World", was released in 2017 and is available at www.stanbush.com and on itunes.

Stan has also lent his considerable talents to various movies such as The Wraith (1986) and Kickboxer (1989). He provided music for the US dub of Sailor Moon and most recently, the Netflix series GLOW. In the video game world, as well as the aforementioned Transformers: War for Cybertron, his work has also been included on Saints Row IV and even Guitar Hero!

We'll be putting Stan right in the eye of the storm for the full weekend of TFNation 2018, where he will be participating in panels, meeting fans and signing autographs at no additional cost.

In addition, Stan has kindly offered to perform a full concert for his fans at TFNation!

The concert will take place on the Saturday evening of the convention, after the conclusion of our "Clubcon" evening entertainment for weekend pass holders. Like all events taking place at TFNation, attendance is strictly subject to availability and room capacity.

We appreciate this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of our attendees so, to ensure the concert is as impressive as it deserves to be, TFNation has hired suitable function space, instruments, a professional audio set up and a full live band. This is an additional event, taking place beyond our usual budget, so to accommodate these extra measures (and to avoid a price rise across all ticket types) there will be an additional concert entrance fee.

Tickets will be available from our website, in addition to regular TFNation packages, on 3rd February 2018. For Saturday only attendees, concert tickets will be £20.00. For full weekend pass holders, concert tickets will be on sale at the reduced price of £15.00.

At this time we do not have plans to open ticket sales to non-attendees, as we believe demand will be extremely high and it is important to us that TFNation attendees have first option to watch Stan in action. We may reassess the position closer to the event, but only if available places and capacity allow.

After all is said and done, Stan Bush will be joining TFNation for the entire duration of the convention, from 17th to 19th August 2018, at a place where dreams survive; the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel!

Launch tickets, bedrooms details, further guests and activities will be announced in the coming months. Keep monitoring this frequency.

TFNation have announced plans to hold a custom toy display at TFNation 2018!

Transmission_Initiated
Transmission ID: 00004
TFNation_2018
Operation: Seaspray in a Display
We are looking to gauge interest in a Custom Figure showcase for TFNation 2018, where attendees will be able to show their skills and crafts in a dedicated location in The Forge. Do you create customs, be they simple paintjobs, scratch builds, junker repurposings, add-ons, or mash-ups? We want to hear from you!
If enough interest is expressed, we are planning on locating the Custom / Kitbash feature in The Forge, and the figures displayed in lockable glass cabinets for all attendees to peruse and admire. We will create online forms for interested parties to fill in, asking for the name of the entry, rough size of the figure and ticket reference (only ticket holders will be able to display their custom work at this time). The custom entries must relate to Transformers, but can use any base molds, figures, or systems available.
This is not a competition, simply a way to showcase your work to other fans! If the display is successful, there are plans to expand the focus on custom work, in the form of panels and competitions for future TFNation events.
Does showing off your custom work to an expected audience of over 1000 fans appeal to you? Let us know, and help us make the display area a reality for TFNation 2018!

TFNation_2018
Operation: First 2018 Guest Acquired!

The first reveal of this new season of TFNation comes from the voice acting world, for fans of all ages: introducing, D.C. Douglas!

Famous in the Transformers franchise for his role as Chase the Police Bot in Rescue Bots, Douglas has been a regular go-to resource for updates about the show itself and is also well known beyond the transforming robot world.

If you're a videogame aficionado, you will recognise him as Legion in the Mass Effect series - a gestalt artificial intelligence unit. Both Chase and Legion were similarly influenced by Leonard Nimoy's approach to Spock, in their respective ways.

He has also appeared in seven Resident Evil games as Albert Wesker, as Kamoshida in Persona 5, Pod 042 in Nier: Automata, Azrael in Blazeblue, Zero in Zero Time Dilemma 3, Raven in Tekken 6, and foxy grandpa Gunter in Fire Emblem: Fates.

If cartoons and anime are more your thing, you will have heard him voicing X Drake in One Piece, The Professor in Cyborg 009, Jasley in Mobile Suit Gundam: IBO, Genji Kamogawa in Hajime no ippo, Shori Shibuya in God, Save Our King!, and Colonel Rawls on Regular Show, Superman on Family Guy.

His on camera roles include the seminal cinematographic masterpiece Sharknado 2 (Bud), plus Zepht in Star Trek: Enterprise, Pa Kettle in Z Nation, and Aiden Wexler in SyFy’s Isle of the Dead.

D.C. Douglas will be joining TFNation for the entire duration of the convention, offering autographs, photo opportunities where possible and joining panels over the weekend.

Launch tickets, bedrooms details, further guests and activities will be announced in the coming months. Keep monitoring this frequency.

Operation: The Forge Returns for TFNation 2017
TFNation is not only pleased to announce that The Forge is returning for TFNation 2017, but also that applications are now open!
The Forge, located in a specially designated room just outside of the main convention hall, is our home for fan art and crafts and shall be joined this year by various other features, details to be announced in future transmissions. The Forge is an area for our creative attendees to promote, display and sell their work.
Here is how it works...
STAGE 1 - MAKE AN APPLICATION
Aspiring Forge artists and crafters are required to pre-register their interest by completing the application form linked below.
You must be aged 16 or above to make an application. You do not need to have booked a ticket at this stage - you are free to apply before making that decision.
Successful applicants will receive an email inviting them to make a formal booking. Applicants who are not successful this time will be notified and will be welcome to apply again in future years.
TFNation staff will allow a grace period of 14 days, until March 13th, before reviewing applications. This is to allow as many people as possible the chance to apply. All applications will be reviewed by TFNation staff. If necessary, applications will remain open after March 13th until all spaces are sold.
Space will once again be limited, so we recommend getting your applications in as soon as you can.
STAGE 2 - PAY FOR YOUR TABLE
If your application is successful, you will then be able to book your table.
Both Forge Craft and Forge Artist Alley stalls cost £25.00, including built in insurance. You must also hold a valid TFNation 2017 full weekend ticket.
If you do not hold a weekend ticket then one shall automatically be added to your Forge booking. If you have already purchased a day ticket and your Forge application is approved, then your ticket will be automatically upgraded to a Weekend ticket for an additional price.
Full terms and conditions will be available at the time of booking - but here are the important things you need to know about each table type.
FORGE CRAFT STALLS
- For attendees to promote, display and sell any hand-made craft items. Up to three individuals may share a single Forge Craft Stall.
- Stalls cost £25.00.
- Stalls are only available to attendees who have purchased a weekend ticket.
- Some crafters produce art prints of their creations. We are happy to allow these, however toys, sketches and art commissions may not be sold here. This is to protect our artists and traders who have invested a lot of time and money into their stalls.
FORGE ARTIST ALLEY STALLS

- Artist Alley stalls are for one person only.
- Stalls cost £25.00.
- Stalls are only available to attendees who have purchased a weekend ticket.

All stalls must be staffed by the person(s) who paid for them. This is to ensure the safety of your stock and our attendees. The TFNation crew are unable to staff stalls.
Please CLICK HERE for further details on applying to The Forge.
We look forward to seeing your amazing creations!

TFNation have announced that Japanese artist Kei Zama shall be one of their guests at TFNation 2017 which takes place August 11th through August 13th 2017 at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham in England. You can virew a copy of their announcement below

Operation: Kei Zama to attend TFNation 2017

With IDW’s universe of Transformers comics going from strength to strength, the depth of talent involved in creating them grows ever greater and now we at TFNation are pleased to bring more of that greatness to you, in the form of Kei Zama, returning for our second year.

Starting with her series of covers for IDW’s Transformer line in September 2015, Kei-sensei has rapidly gained a large fan following, due to her mean and gritty artistic style, as well as her stunning commission work. Following on from her cover work, she is now bringing the continuing adventures of Optimus Prime to life (along with writer John Barber and colourist Josh Burcham) in his current titular series.

Outside of Transformers, Kei-sensei made her Marvel comics art debut with last year’s Scarlet Witch #10, has provided art for Sparklight comics, as well as covers for IDW’s Atomic Robo, and recently achieved a personal dream in working on an ABC Warriors-related piece for Fleetway/2000ad. Her Blackblood-themed story (written by the mighty Patt Mills) is set to show off her undeniable talent for monochrome imagery and prove a perfect fit for the tone of this title.

We advise all our attendees to keep an eye on Kei-sensei’s blog http://steelandstarlight.com/ for details of her commission list, as the event draws closer.

Kei Zama will be signing autographs, discussing classic British rock bands and selling artwork (including her highly-prized sketchbooks) at TFNation 2017 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel. We look forward to seeing you there!

Further transmissions to follow.

Transformers Convention News

TFNation have posted an update regarding hotel rooms at the Hilton for their 2017 convention.

Transmission_Initiated
Transmission ID: 00008
TFNation_2017
Operation: Hotel Update

First off, we are just so grateful to all of our supporters for what has been an incredible 18 months! It has been heartening for us to see the ever-growing support of the entire TFNation family (attendees, traders, guests, volunteers and crew from all walks of TF fandom) coming together to share their passion.

One of the results of this union has been a markedly increased demand for this years’ convention-rate rooms at the Hilton Metropole. Due to this demand, the remaining allocation has become limited and, naturally, we have received a lot of questions regarding the remaining rooms. We therefore want to take this opportunity to answer some of these points, provide some information and keep everyone up to date. So let's begin with...

1. ARE ALL OF THE DISCOUNTED ROOMS SOLD OUT?

No. Although some room dates/types have sold out, there are some still free to book. At the time of posting, the following options are still available.

  • Wednesday 9th – Single Deluxe, Twin Deluxe, Queen Family
  • Thursday 10th - No rooms available at our discounted rate
  • Friday 11th –Single Deluxe, Queen Deluxe (extremely limited), Queen Executive Rooms
  • Saturday 12th – Single Deluxe
  • Sunday 13th - No rooms available at our discounted rate
  • Monday 14th – Twin Deluxe, Queen Family
  • Tuesday 15th – Twin Deluxe, Queen Family

2. WILL TFNATION RECEIVE ANY OTHER DISCOUNTED ROOMS?

We have already liaised with the hotel and it is very unlikely that we will be afforded any more rooms at the convention-rate, as they have to cater for multiple events within the Hilton complex, as well as demand from “Quiltcon” which expects over 25,000 visitors that weekend. With this in mind, we encourage you to make look into alternatives now, if you are unable to secure your first choice room.

3. WHAT TO DO IF YOUR ROOM CHOICES ARE UNAVAILABLE

There are multiple ways you can book alternative accommodation, so stay calm, and start planning your hotel options now. Remember, this is where you will sleep AFTER enjoying all the convention's events. While staying outside of the main hotel may add extra time when returning to your room, it will not impact the jokes in the bar, the workshops we will announce shortly, the panels, the guests or your friends who you will no doubt meet that weekend.

Below, we will list the options you can take now, to assist your search. We advise you to take prompt action as holding out for your preferred room to become available again may only further reduce your options.

4. BOOK WHAT YOU CAN

As noted above; there are some Hilton options left. If you can book one or two nights at the discount rate, you may have more flexibility, financially, to book other nights either at the Hilton or elsewhere.

5. FIND A ROOMMATE

We will shortly open a thread on our Facebook page for people looking for roommates. If there is a spare bed in your room, please consider assisting a fellow fan. We will be monitoring the group to ensure the process runs fair.

6. THE HILTON WEBSITE

Although the convention rate rooms are selling quickly, the Hilton, like most hotels, reserves a portion of rooms for public sale.

Please check out their site at http://bit.ly/1RMUtdF for standard room rates. If you already have some nights booked at the Hilton, booking a further night, directly, will allow you to remain at the venue for longer. After purchase, we advise you to phone the hotel and enquire if they can “stitch” the two bookings together. NOTE: this does not mean the Hilton can amend prices.

7. THIRD PARTY HILTON ROOM WEBSITES

Third party websites also sell some of the publicly available rooms at the Hilton. While some bookings will be cheaper than the Hilton's own website, payment dates and breakfast options may vary - always read the terms. We suggest you try the following:

8. OTHER HOTELS

Shortly, will update our website to provide you with a FULL list of alternative accommodation in the area as there are several options within walking distance, or a short commute. To assist folks looking now, we suggest four of the most popular alternative hotels are worth checking out;

  • Hotel Ibis Styles Birmingham Airport NEC
  • Hotel Novotel Birmingham Airport
  • Hotel Ibis Budget Birmingham Airport
  • Hotel Ibis Birmingham Airport

All four options can be researched by going to their official group page at http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/united-kingdom/index.shtml

9. WHAT NOT TO DO

In previous years, a small number of people have called the Hilton directly and have been less than polite to reception staff. This serves little purpose but to damage TFNation's relationship with the Hilton and may, in fact, impact future years' allocations. We strongly urge our attendees not to do this - reception staff do not have the authority to give you additional discounted rooms, or change booked rates, and do not deserve to be treated badly during their day job.

In addition, we know our core team is quite visible and friendly, but messaging them directly to resolve your issues will only cause you extra delays. The TFNation crew will be looking at queries received through the main TFN Facebook page, Twitter, email, and prioritising them as they come in, to ensure attendees are treated fairly – thank you for your understanding here.

Finally, please do not attempt to book rooms at full rate, only to request a switch to the convention rate nearer the date. It does not work... especially when people write on our page about their intent to try it.

10. THE ALLOCATION PROCESS EXPLAINED

We have received a lot of questions along the lines of “why doesn’t the hotel give us all of the rooms – surely it is better for them to sell them all?”. We want to address this point, rather than try do dodge it.

Throughout the year, regular rooms at the Hilton can sell for anywhere between £100.00 and £300.00 per night, depending on how busy the NEC is that weekend. (Try a few searches on the website – you’ll see what we mean!) Now consider how cheap the TFNation rate is in comparison to this.

When putting the two figures side by side, it is quite easy to see that the Hilton sells our attendees rooms at a massive discount. And Transformers conventions at the Hilton have usually shared the weekend with at least two other events, which also receive discounted rates. All of a sudden, those numbers become super important. To keep their business viable that weekend, the Hilton therefore has to maintain a percentage of rooms to sell at the public rates – effectively, to pay for the loss they make in catering for a hoard of happy robot fans.

This is why, as much as we would love to, we can’t guarantee you all 790 rooms. Some go to a couple of other events; some go to special NEC affiliate events; and some go to the general public to help to pay for us lot. This is common practice at all hotel convention venues.

Some attendees may not be aware, but previous TF events at the Hilton (and the Holiday Inn, for you veterans) have sold out of their discounted rooms, with many attendees sourcing alternate accommodation. If you have not been in this position before, it is natural to be a little nervous. It is, however, important to remember that nothing has gone wrong - the truth is that a large amount of our TF community have booked straight away and taken up many of the options available. With the options listed above (and more to come) we hope we can make your convention booking process as easy as possible.

We hope this update has been helpful and we thank you for your understanding. We know booking hotel rooms can be a stressful time. Whether or not you get your first choice room, we hope as many of you as possible will join us at the convention.

Further transmissions to follow.

Operation: Venus Terzo to attend TFNation 2017

Joining UK fans for the very first time, we are pleased to announce the incredibly talented Venus Terzo, Beast Wars Blackarachnia, will be attending TFNation 2017!
Blazing a trail for the multi-layered female characters who followed in her path, Blackarachnia’s long journey, from Beast Wars’ ruthless, self-serving, rebel Predacon to the Maximal-aligned Beast Machines force of nature, has seen the character achieve a special place in fan’s hearts. Her later dedication to Cybertron, and her relationship with Spark-mate Silverbolt, were elements decades ahead of MTMTE’s own examinations of loyalty and friendship, and are as relevant now as they have ever been.
Apart from her Transformers work, Venus’ acting versatility is reflected in the sheer quality and scale of her filmography. She is well-known for voicing My Little Pony’s Rainbow Dash across numerous features, the female version of Ranma ½, Jean Grey in X-Men: Evolution, the iconic Sorceress (and evil Critta) in The New Adventures of He-Man, and Gigagirl in Reboot. Then add in Biiko Daitokuji in Project A-Ko, G.I. Joe’s Jinx, Death Note’s Wedy, Princess Lana in Captain N: The Game Master and Talia Gladys in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, and that’s just a selection of her animated work.
Venus’s on-screen appearances are even more numerous, including Arrow, Minority Report, Supernatural, Continuum, Sanctuary, Andromeda, and Stargate SG-1. Mainstream audiences will also know Venus from Blackstone, Badge of Honour, The Guard and her long-running role as Detective Angela Kosmo on Da Vinci’s Inquest , along with numerous other TV Movie and episodic work.
It’s worth noting, for fans of darker series, that Venus has also appeared in The Masters of Horror, The Dead Zone and The Twilight Zone and even appeared in the original TV series adaptation of Stephen King’s It.
Venus will be meeting fans, signing autographs and taking part in panels during our convention, which will run from Friday 11th and Sunday 13th August 2017.
Further transmissions to follow.

Operation: The Angry Birds Transformers let fly!

The walls of TFNation Towers are shaking as we play host to our most explosive new guests yet, the Angry Birds Transformers! Exient, the award winning studio that develops and transmits the mobile game for Rovio, is motoring into TFNation 2016, for their first UK Transformers convention.

Since its launch in September 2014, Angry Birds Transformers has gone from strength to strength, averaging half a million daily active users, regular updates, 40 characters and over 150 accessories (our favourite is Kremzeek) and there seems no sign of stopping. It's continued success has brought high praise from Hasbro and Rovio and the Exient team justifiably proud of their creation.

Ryan and the team will be displaying concept and designs from the series, discussing the development of the game, its ever-growing cast of characters and seeking feedback from both current and future gamers on the mobile app. In return, attendees can expect some exclusive goodies, including character unlocks for the game! All game development disciplines will be accounted for:

Stuart Maine and Greg Law - Design
James Back - Producer
Ryan Astley - Art
Emyr Jenkins and Jordan Thompson - Code
Athanasios Skarlatos - Analyst
Deborah Oyeyinka - Social Media

Exient will be in attendance on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August 2016. This is not only a great opportunity for fans of the game to speak to the driving force behind its development, but will appeal to anyone interested in game design, animation and multimedia. The team aren’t just with us as developers, they are also here as fans of the franchise from G1 to the modern comic incarnations, and we hope our attendees give them the warmest of welcomes!

Operation: Wreck and Roche (Warning, trousers may shatter)

While we have enjoyed the incredible responses to all our guest announcements to date, it’s fair to say that few will give both the TFNation team, and it’s attendees as much pleasure as announcing writer and artist Nick Roche’s attendance at this August’s event.

Known for his work with The Wreckers, Nick has been a TF fan since the days of the Marvel UK comics. Gaining exposure through the Transmasters community, Nick first worked on IDW’s Spotlight series, followed by Devastation, Maximum Dinobots and a notable issue of All Hail Megatron. All this, plus his numerous covers for other series, lead to the 2010 mini-series LAST STAND OF THE WRECKERS (for which he snuck in his Transmaster collaborator, some guy called James Roberts) which broke hearts, shattered trousers and whose influence has been felt in IDW Transformers, ever since.

Sins of the Wreckers, the highly anticipated sequel that Nick both wrote and drew, has just concluded, providing another dark chapter of the story of the Autobots most tragic/heroic team. We look forward to hearing the authors own feelings on the characters, story and those inevitable deaths, over the course of the convention weekend.

Away from Transformers, Nick has been involved in a wide range of work, from his Monster Motors collaboration with Brian Lynch, Dr Who covers for IDW and New Warriors for Marvel comics. He also hit Marvel UK fans right in the retros by providing the artwork for the Deaths Head section of Marvels Revolutionary war. Fitting, yes? On top of that, it still blows our minds that Nick also created all the artwork for an animated music video, as well as album cover art, for the last album from Brit rockers The Darkness.

We suggest you follow Nick on social media, for details of his plans for this year, as well as his recent blog for those following SINS OF THE WRECKERS.

Nick will be signing autographs and selling artwork at TFNation 2016 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel - we look forward to seeing you there!

Further transmissions to follow.
