Roberto Orci has been interviewed by IGN regarding the next Transformers animated series.  Roberto confirmed that both he and Alex Kurtzman will be returning to produce the new series and but also has started that it will be more kid-friendly and less intense than Transformers Prime but that they would welcome back Peter Cullen and Frank Welker to the show.

It’s not really a reboot, it’s sort of a continuation of it [Transformers Prime] in a tonally different form. We want to make sure we’re servicing the right audiences. We got to do a very adult version of Transformers that you just saw in this cartoon, a very sophisticated one, and we also want to make sure we don’t leave other kids behind, who love Transformers too and don’t want to be as scared as Transformers Prime could make you, that kind of thing. So we’re going to have a good parallel series that is connected, but it’s a little more friendly to the family.

When asked whether the show will be a "kids-only affair", Roberto replied:

I would say that clever wit always makes it something more adult. I think the look of it, you may find, is more kid-friendly. But we certainly don’t intend to be any less entertaining or any less Transformers. But there is a little bit of truth to that. I won’t deny that also, yes, we’re trying to make sure that younger kids who really love Transformers aren’t put off by its intensity.

Hasbro Inc have issued the following press release announcing a deal with Vision Animation and Moody Street Kids to produce 26 half-hour episodes for a 2nd season of Rescue Bots.

Hasbro Strikes Malaysian Production Deal for Rescue Bots

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Hasbro Studios, the Los Angeles-based entertainment division of Hasbro, Inc., announced an agreement with Malaysia’s leading studio, Vision Animation, and Australia’s Moody Street Kids to produce 26 half-hour episodes for the second season of Rescue Bots. The pact comes as the new animated Transformers franchise series has debuted to strong ratings both on The Hub, a joint venture between Hasbro and Discovery Communications in the U.S., and on many of the top broadcast networks globally.

Rescue Bots will be collaboratively produced by Hasbro in the U.S., Vision in Malaysia and Moody Street in Australia. This brings to eight the number of countries that will be involved in production or co-production deals with Hasbro Studios by the end of November, with the United States, China, Japan, Canada, South Korea and Spain also on the list. Pre-production on the Rescue Bot episodes will commence immediately and delivery is expected in mid-2014.

“We are always striving to find cutting edge talent around the world,” said Hasbro Studios President Stephen Davis. “With Vision and Moody Street, we now have another team of international production partners that share our vision and understanding of the power of brands. We are most impressed with their ability to take branded entertainment and create great emotional stories.”

The Vision agreement is significant to Malaysia, with Hasbro Studios becoming the first U.S. company to strike a deal under the terms of Malaysia’s recently announced production Tax Incentive program.

Following an introductory meeting between Davis and Malaysia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Communications two years ago, Vision joined the discussions. The animation studio at the forefront of developing Malaysia’s production industry, especially through co-productions with world-class partners, brought in Moody Street Kids with which they had collaborated on three previous projects. To ensure their ability to deliver high-quality animation and strong storytelling in conjunction with Hasbro Studios, the partners conducted a successful test prior to the deal being signed.

“Gill Carr of Moody Street Kids and I are delighted to be given the opportunity to bring the collective strengths of our studios to bear on the production of this fantastic show,” said Huoi-Seong Low, CEO of Vision Animation. “We are confident that this will be the first of many projects we will be doing together with Hasbro Studios.”

"I am happy and pleased to take note that the Malaysian Government's support and investments in the entertainment & media industry over the past few years have paid off,” said Dato' Sri Kamaruddin Siaraf, Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture. “Malaysia is being globally recognized as a reliable content production centre, ready for co-production opportunities, especially in 2D & 3D animation. The production deal between Hasbro Studios and Vision Animation is a landmark and certainly a testament to Malaysia's capabilities in producing award-winning, world-class animation for international markets at a competitive cost."

Hasbro Reveals TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS at New York Comic Con

- The Hunt Begins in 2013 as OPTIMUS PRIME and the AUTOBOTS Face an Unprecedented New Foe in the TRANSFORMERS PRIME Animated Series and Beyond

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a packed room filled with TRANSFORMERS fans, Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) officially unveiled details about TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS during a special panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday. BEAST HUNTERS will be the touchstone for TRANSFORMERS brand entertainment in 2013 driven by the award winning TRANSFORMERS PRIME animated series which is produced by Hasbro Studios, airs on The HUB television network in the U.S. (Fridays at 7 p.m. ET) and is seen by kids and fans in over 170 countries around the world.

The beasts, comprised of a new TRANSFORMERS faction called the PREDACONS, are led by one of the most imposing and powerful characters in the TRANSFORMERS world – PREDAKING. At New York Comic Con, in addition to giving fans a sneak peek at PREDAKING in the animated series, Hasbro discussed how BEAST HUNTERS will be the driving force behind its product line including toys as well as an extensive licensing program.

“In recent years, TRANSFORMERS fans have seen the AUTOBOTS battle the DECEPTICONS,” said Aaron Archer, Vice President of TRANSFORMERS Brand Creative and Design. “The PREDACON faction, made up of menacing beasts that convert in ways mankind has never seen, have now joined the DECEPTICONS to take down the AUTOBOTS. We’re looking forward to exploring this new dynamic in the animation, action figures, KRE-O building sets, publishing and more.”

As a special early look for fans, Hasbro also unveiled select new toys from the BEAST HUNTERS line that will launch in the spring of 2013 including new KRE-O TRANSFORMERS building sets and TRANSFORMERS PRIME action figures. Both toy lines will be driven by the BEAST HUNTERS theme bringing the AUTOBOTS, DECEPTICONS – and now the PREDACONS – to life in toy form and will be reflective of the compelling and visually stunning aesthetic of the TRANSFORMERS PRIME animated series.

“BEAST HUNTERS is an exciting new direction for TRANSFORMERS brand entertainment and the introduction of the PREDACON faction is a pivotal moment for OPTIMUS PRIME and the heroic AUTOBOTS, impacting the world of TRANSFORMERS which will never be the same,” said Jay Duke, Global TRANSFORMERS Brand Vice President at Hasbro. “Kids and fans will be amazed by how Hasbro will bring this story and the ‘beasts’ to life across the brand’s major entertainment platforms in 2013.”

Transformers Prime voice actors, Jeffrey Combs and Tony Todd, appeared at the El Paso Comic Con in Texas this weekend in which Jeffrey Combs (Ratchet) made mention to a few things which suggest that Transformers Prime may be coming to a premature end two years earlier than was originally planned.  TFW2005 board member MiraiBaby was at the convention and reported the following:

  • Season 3 of Transformers Prime only contains 16 episodes
  • Jeffrey Combs stated that they had "just finished recording the last episode to season 3"
  • He is also quoted as having said "Unfortunately this iteration of the franchise is coming to an end"

With the recent "Beast Hunters" trademark being applied could this mean that Prime will end in 2013 with that taking over?  At the same time the recent leaked Hasbro document which suggested that Transformers Prime was still planned to continue right through 2015 suggests otherwise.

With the New York ComicCon due to take place next month, keep your eyes on to the Internet for the latest news on this story.

Credit goes to TFW2005 for the initial report

Hasbro have posted the answers from their Transformer Prime Q&A with the legendary Frank Welker onto their Facebook page.

1) Randy Young: What are your thoughts on why Transformers has become such a pop culture icon and endures to this day?

FW: Honestly, I think early on the ability to move the characters and have them transform was a brilliant design idea. You ended up with two figures not just one. The figures themselves were well thought out and stood apart from what was being made at the time. Also, Hasbro never sits idle for long they must have “mad scientist” idea men who work around the clock to keep coming up with new ideas, takes and concepts. I think that helps keep interest in the brand and grabs a new group of fans in each generation. Some things work and some don’t but they never stop trying to please the fans and it blows me away that they have listened to you guys and kept Prime, and Megatron as the leading force in the franchise. That kind of loyalty is not often seen in the biz.

2) Chibi Chan: If you could bring in any of the transformers from the other generations into Transformers Prime, who would they be and why?

FW: Chibi, you know what I would really like to see is a tribute to the G1 series and have a special that included the entire past cast or as many as we could assemble for a terrific 90 minute or two hour event. I know a lot of the guys and gals that are around and would love to do it. It’s problematic to bring charters into CGI life it’s very expensive so it would have to be like the old animated show and done in flat animation.

As to who I would bring into Transformers Prime, that is a tough question…there were so many I had affection for but you know what might be a good idea, have a contest and let you the fans vote for one Autobot and one Decepticon that you would like to see inserted into the TFP shows.

3) Christopher Curi: Mr. Welker, have any of your characters ever been modeled after the voice you create for them, or do you create the voice based on what the characters already look like?

FW: Hi Christopher, it is almost, with rare exception, the latter. We usually create the voice based on what we see or a verbal description by the producer or director. My favorite process is looking at the drawing or picture and then letting us the actors just come up with a voice to fit what we see. That is what Wally Burr director in the G1 days did with us. Almost always, that will be the best voice for the actor to perform because it is his initial gut instinct. But it usually doesn’t go down that way. The writer, the producer, and the director all have ideas that they want to be incorporated and often the amalgam is far from the actor’s first impression. Sometimes it works out great with the team effort…but to me the less messing around the better, after all if a picture is worth a thousand words that should be plenty enough.

4) Barry Koch: how hard is it to get the voice of Megatron down to the perfect pitch?

FW: Barry, just like feeling better some days than others there are times I feel such power and strength with Megatron it’s like flying effortlessly. Then there are those few days where I have to physically kick it up a notch to get him where I want him. There is technique for this…when I feel he isn’t quite as edgy as I would like, I do some low unearthly growls to get into character then I play the microphone on its stand just like it was a boxing opponent. I concentrate on the mike as a presence and bob and weave and pounce. I know that may sound a bit melodramatic but it works for me. The sound engineer may stop me once in a while because I am off mike but it really does the trick for the acting beats and getting vocal control.
Now I think is the time I should say, “I am a professional don’t try this at home”…but I would suggest it is a great way to get into character or maybe loosen up for work?? So put on your best evil face and move swiftly making guttural sounds, bob and weave and enjoy irritating the bejesus out of those around you!!! Yes, Barry, I say…”Start your day the Megatron way.”
