A little late we know but back on the 30th June, Takara purchased an 88% share in Tatsunoko Productions in a deal estimated to be worth over 1 billion yen (US$8.9 million). Takara recently made trade news when it was announced that on March 1st 2006, they would merge with Tomy to create Japan's 4th largest "game and toy maker" behind only Sega Sammy Holdings, Namco Bandai Holdings (un-confirmed name) and Nintendo corp. Currently, Takara is ranked 5th in that market and is also the 2nd largest Toy manufacturer in Japan, behind only Bandai. Takara also owns Broccoli, which in turns owns North American anime distributor Synch-Point and Japanese anime retailer Gamers.
The
Japan Times quoted unnamed sources as stating that
Takara wants to create toys and software using Tatsunoko properties.
Following the annoucement, it was reported that Takara's stocks increased by almost 10% and they have stated that they
hopes to increase sales at Tatsunoko from 600 million yen to 5 billion yen in 3 years.
