Reveal The Shield - Turbo Tracks - Information

Turbo Tracks was released early within the UK via the Irish toy chain Smyths. Originally the figure was not due for UK distribution until the spring of 2011, but he was released art the end of 2010 instead with Jazz. The RTS Jazz toy had gained all the plaudits prior to these toys being released so when I picked him up on the 8th Jan 2011, I had less expectations for this figure.

Reveal The Shield - Turbo Tracks - Toy Review

Tracks is a fantastic looking toy who's biggest flaws are his flying car mode and inaccurate instructions.

Before I go any further I would like to state yes I know that, in the pictures, one of his shoulder rockets is upside down. I didn't notice until I finished which is why only some of the images have them the correct way up.

In car mode Tracks looks the business. The painted rims help highlight the wheels and the blue plastic is, IMO, finished better than thew white of Jazz. The flames on his bonnet are a little poor, but they do enough so that you know its Tracks.

His flying car mode is poor. The doors pop-out and extend but as wings, they still look very flimsy and almost as if they forgot until the end.

When transforming Tracks if you go by the instructions you will not change him correctly or fully. This is because they do not highlight certain joints and twist, but you'll soon know as he'll look wrong or his back will not clip togther.

Once in robot mode Turbo Tracks is a pretty sexy looking toy. Much like Jazz, there is something not quite right about his hands, IMO. Paint Apps wise Tracks has some fantastic touches. The paint that was used on his legs to represent the gun-metal section add a little shine and do give the toy a metallic look. Much like Jazz tracks has a reasonable amount of sculpting on the plastic, he doesn't quite have as much but where as Jazz has no detailing in terms of paint application, Tracks has a few touches on his arms, legs and chest that offset nicely against the blue, black and grey. Much like many of the figures these days, some of the applications have been a little sloppy and you can since the odd red splodge if you look. On my particular toy Tracks has some marks on his head, though no where near as noticable as with the Jazz. Speaking of the head, though it is a nice sculpt, its actually the weakest point of the robot form. Perhaps its the dark blue pipeing, or the thin red pain app, but I find the head does not stand out when you glance at the toy unless you focus on his from below the eye-socket ridge.

Tracks has more kibble than Jazz and the ball and socket joints on the ankles look like they will become very loose very quickly if the toy is played with heavily. The "reveal the shield" rub-sign is also, at least on mine, crooked.

All-in-all this is another extremely nice toy and one of the best figures I have picked up in quite a while. Both he and Jazz show how the development of the Transformers has improved from Universe through Classics and Generations and this is possibly the best G1 Tracks figure produced thus far.

Overall rating, 9/10.
