The Orlando Sentinel report that "A video by four Union Park Elementary fifth-graders has won the top prize in a contest sponsored by NASA and Hasbro, the makers of “Transformers†toys.
The students won first place in the elementary division of the the
Optimus Prime contest for their YouTube video about clothing developed
using NASA technology. Their video took the form of a newscast about the
fabrics, which protect wearers from harmful ultraviolet rays. The
contest goal was to help students understand how NASA technology
‘transforms’ into things used daily.
The four girls each received a 10-pound glass trophy with Optimus
Prime etched inside and their name engraved on it, a NASA goody bag and
clothing from the SPF company, which makes the UV-protective clothing
they featured in their video."

Win Tickets to see the Transformers Movie on 22nd June in London
Transformers At The Moon and
Paramount Pictures UK have teamed up to offer you this once in a life time opportunity to attend an exclusive FDA Multimedia Screening of the Transformers Movie
a month before it's official UK release, and week before its worldwide release.
You'll be attending an
invite only screening, not open to the general public, on the 22nd June. Paramount Pictures UK are keen to offer the hard-core Transformers fanatics an opportunity to see this truly amazing film first, way ahead of the UK's belated release date, and so they have teamed up with us to give you this amazing opportunity. They want you to see the film, love the film and then help spread the word for its official UK release on the 27th July.
Here are the details:-
- Transformers Movie Screening Friday 22nd June.
- Doors open 17:30 for an 18:30 start.
- Security will be high, hence the hour's "check-in time".
- Final location is not named, although it is assumed it will be in the Odeon West End in Leicester Square. (Will announce the finalized details once Paramount have them).
- Entry to the film is free, although you'll have to pay to get there.
- No electrical equipment (cameras, phones etc) is allowed in the screen. You'll have to leave these outside of the screen (you'll get a token to pick them up afterwards).
- UK Press will be in attendance (this is the first UK press screening of the film).
- We have 8 pairs of tickets to give away, if demand is sufficient enough, Paramount have said they will try to increase this number.
Just email us your name to transformers@themoon.co.ukThere's not long until the showing, so we'll be closing the
competition on the Sunday the 17th at midnight, so get emailing.
The winning names will be picked at random and will be announced early next week. The competition will close on Monday morning (00:01) on the 18th June giving us enough time to send Paramount the details so you are added to the guest list.
There will be some stipulations. The event will have very tight security, so make sure you get there with plenty of time.
Reviews of the movie are not allowed to be published before the 28th June as their is an embargo in place, however you can post comments online afterwards and I will be creating a special thread in our forums just for that so I can send Paramount Pictures the feedback.
We'd like to thank Paramount Pictures for giving the UK Transformers fans an opportunity to see the film before it's general release.
Again, to enter the competition simply email your full name (plus that of a your guest) to
transformers@themoon.co.uk to be entered into the draw.
This competition is open only to the residents of the UK and Ireland as it is a 'thank you' from Paramount UK for the support and excitement that the UK fans have shown towards the movie. So get entering and good luck.

Back in April we attended a preview screening of 20 minutes of footage from the Transformers Movie, at the invitation of Paramount Pictures UK. This was where the light-up Transformers t-shirts were first shown off, and we quickly got in contact with the Thumbs Up UK Ltd to bring you exclusive news on the shirts.
Now, with the film due out in a few weeks overseas, and just over a month domestically, Transformers At The Moon as and Thumbs Up UK Ltd have teamed up to give you a chance to win not one, but two of their brand new light-up Transformers T-shirts. (Sizes Medium (Autobot), Small (Decepticon)).
The shirts you will win are the
Autobot Logo t-shirt and
Decepticon Logo t-shirt, and all you need do is answer this simple question:-
What is the name of the group of hackers in the Transformers Movie?
a) Blackrock Industries
b) Rann Corporation
c) Sector Seven
d) Sliding Doors
Email your answer to transformers@themoon.co.uk
If you were reading our news stories this week, you would have already seen the answer.
Update: Having checked the packaging of the t-shirts, I can now tell you that the Autobot shirt is size Medium and the Decepticon is size Small.
Small - Chest 89-94cms, 35-37inch
Medium - Chest 97-102cms, 38-40inch
Our apologise to those who these will not fit, you may still want to enter the competition just to own them - as it's free after all.
