The New York Times have held an interview with Hasbro’s chief executive Brian D. Goldner regarding the Transformers line in which he described the toys have having "lost their magic". Mr Goldner made the statement whilst referring to the complexity of the toys these days compared to earlier incarnations.  “We’ve made incredibly sophisticated robots,” he said, “but it can be like a 1,000-piece puzzle.” he went on to say.

Goldner is quoted as having taking the decision that "the toys needed to return to their roots" and that he challenged the design team to relook at the figures to greatly simplify them.  The result is that some of the figures will now change simply from the push of a button or a "flick of the wrist".

The article also confirmed that the toys will be on show to retailer at the British Toy Fair which takes place this week and that part of the reasoning for the change in the toys was to grant the instant gratification that is sort by children these days who attention span simply does not keep them interested in a more complicated figure.

Joshua Lamb, the senior design director for the brand, is quoted as stating that " “As new designers and engineers continued to work on this brand, it got more complicated,” he said. Hasbro will continue to make complex Transformers for adult fans who have collected the toys since their inception 30 years ago. But the new design is intended to re-engage parents and children, who found the transformations too challenging."

The figures will also be repackaging in a standard brand theme rather than separate sub-brands for say Generations, RescueBots, the Movie figures etc.  According to the Jonathan Newkirk, the creative brand manager for Transformers, the new box design will leave "as much space as possible to celebrate the characters".

TagHobby.com have leaked out the first official image of the grey prototype for MP-20 Wheeljack who is due for a release on the 23rd August in Japan

The Third Party Transformers Group TF Fourth Party have posted an image on Weibo of a silhoutte of a figure based on Omega Supreme which they will be releasing in 2014.  No information is given on the figure other than the size is planned to be that of TFC Hercules

Amazon Japan have posted some new images to their listing of the quad-changing Transformers Go TFG26 Optimus Prime.  The figure transforms from Robots into train into Dragon as well as combining with Kenzan and Geiksomaru to form a new triple combination team.

The figure will be released on the 25th Jan 2014 and is currently priced at 4395yen or 25.47GBP (41.92USD).

Twitter accounts of Alfes2010 and Takara Tomy Designer Shogo Hasui have been updated with images of Transformers Masterpiece 19 Smokescreen.  ACToys also has more images of the upcoming figure.  Here is a little tease

TakaraTomy have announced that they have extended the deadline for voting in their Transformers Masterpiece Fans' Choice Poll from August 31st to September 6th.  This extension gives fans an extra week to vote by submitting robot points from Transformers Go!, Generations, and GT toys to the character of their choice.  At the end of July it was announced that Star Saber was winning the poll. The Transformers Collector's Club have revealed their latest Series Two Subscription Service Figure as Barricade! This decepticon is based on the Transformers Universe aligned continuity design and is a redeco of the Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Prowl figure.

The Planet Iacon Facebook Page reposted an image from Japanese site 2Chan of the FJ Optimus Prime which gives a better look at the figure. The toy, which was shown automatically transforming at the Tokyo Toy Show 2013, appears to have removable parts will be released on the 28th September priced at 4,200yen.
